Podiatrist Dominic J. Catanese, DPM, assistant professor, Albert Einstein Medical College, and director, Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Montefiore Medical New York City explains how to do it!
1.
Slough it off – with alpha hydroxy acid creams. Yes, the same ingredient that helps give your complexion an anti-aging boost will help rid feet of dry, dead cells and allow even those dry cracked heels to hold onto more moisture. And that means no snagging those winter tights!
2.
Bag It! After you've sloughed off the dry skin treat your feet to a super moisturizing treatment: Slather up with a heavy-duty moisturizer cover feet with a plastic bag, and then a pair of white socks. Leave on from 4 to 8 hours and you won't believe the softness!
3.
Can the Corns – To rid feed of stubborn corns – those round bumps on the tops of toes – soak feet in warm water then coat with an OTC corn removing cream. In the morning, soak again and lift off the corn – they really work!
4.
Pamper! Nothing gets toes winter- ready better than a professional manicure. But to keep it safe, always bring your own tools, make certain nails are cropped straight across, and never let a salon remove a corn or callous, or trim your cuticles.
5.
Fight Fungus – It’s easier than you think to pick up a foot fungus in summer! If your nails show signs of thickening, try an OTC athletes foot cream. If that doesn't help, see your doctor for an oral medication. But remember it takes from 3 to 6 months to see sandal-perfect new nails, so seek help early.
6. Don’t Sweat It! – To keep feet smelling sweet – even inside hot, winter boots - , try a quick spritz of an underarm anti- perspirant on the bottom of feet about 3 times a week.
If your feet aren't looking
quite as good as the
rest of you, fear not!
